Set sail for the land of the rising sun with this gallery of cross stitch characters, heroes of Japan's most popular legends. Check our stories for each character. Design by Kyoko Maruoka (GERA!).

Here is a very pretty cross stitch chart by Chouette'alors. It features a mother-hen bending her head tenderly towards her baby. We love the unique and dynamic layout with the focus on the pair's heads, while the hen's tail points strikingly upwards.

Period Fashion
Designer Perrette Samouiloff has a special talent for depicting children, combined with a keen interest in period fashion. These Victorian children seem to have just walked out one of the stucco-fronted houses in the crescent streets of Belgravia or Kensington, London.

Peace and Love
We love the "sixties" feel of the feel the love motif by Tapestry Barn. It will look gorgeous stitched on a faded denim jacket or the pocket of a pair of jeans. Simply using waste canvas will do the trick.
This trio of patterns is also ideal for a beginner cross stitcher. It is small to stitch, the design is very straight forward and there is only cross stitch. If you are looking for a simple - but effective - pattern to teach a friend or a child, here you go!

Early Quakers
Deborah A. Dick of Tempting Tangles takes us on a tour in search of the early Quakers and places where they established themselves. Two early European settlements are featured in this pair of stunning designs, such as the beautiful vineyards and lavender fields of southern France or the busy canals of the Dutch cities where they fled persecution.
