Joyful explosion
In some ways, this new pattern by Kathy Bungard of Gracewood Stitches reminds us of Beethoven's symphony Ode to Joy, there is such joyful energy and movement in it. Looking at it you can almost feel the floral motifs growing and exploding, like fireworks.
This stunning pattern is part of the Traces of Lace series (see below). In all four patterns, the white, lace-like motif is left unstitched, while the color background, with its dual color, is reminiscent of the light travelling through gemstones.

Literary inspiration
Profoundly moved by some of the great classics, Kyoko Maruoka enjoys identifying herself with her favorite characters and illustrating their stories in cross stitch. Here are designs inspired by three of her favorite authors (Chekov, Tolstoy and Austen). While these designs are very personal interpretations, we believe they also show a lot of sensitivity to the actual characters in the novels.

Books, Quotes and Poems
Also very much inspired by books and poetry, Deborah A. Dick of Tempting Tangles showcases - in cross stitch - a pile of one of her favorite author's works, incidentally also by Jane Austen. Alongside the leather bound classics is an elegant period ink well and a feather writing pen.
Further down, see more works in cross stitch, one inspired by American poet Emily Dickinson, the other by Myrtle and Rose, a beautiful poem by Goethe that goes: "Knowest thou the land where the lemon trees bloom,..."

Crazy Quilting
Crazy quilts became hugely popular in Victorian times and if you're lucky you might come across one at a flea market. They combine pieces of irregular shapes into a patchwork, each piece assembled to the next using a variety of embroidery stitches such a feather stitch.
This cross stitch pattern designed by Lesley Teare is inspired by those late 19th century designs. It incorporates different "printed fabric" motifs as well as many different scraps of "lace".
