Joyful explosion
In some ways, this new pattern by Kathy Bungard of Gracewood Stitches reminds us of Beethoven's symphony Ode to joy, there is such joyful energy and movement in it. Looking at it you can almost see the floral motifs growing and explode, like fireworks.
This stunning pattern is part of the Traces of lace series (see below). In all four patterns, the white, lace-like motif is left unstitched, while the color background, with its dual color, is reminiscent of the light travelling through gemstones.

Spinning wheels
Here is the second pattern in the Traces of lace series, a collection of patterns by Gracewood stitches that features lace-like motifs. This stunning motif, Spun Plum, is full of movement, as if spinning wheels were working in concert. The background color, in two shades of plum, evokes the transparency of tainted glass.

A play with light and transparencies
Imagine a piece of lace filtering the sunlight, the light itself passing through a translucent jade stone. This is the image that inspired Kathy Bungard of Gracewood stitches to create this intricate cross stitch pattern, and even a series (the soon to come Traces of Lace).
The lace pattern itself is left unstitched, as if to emphasize the translucent effect. A remarkable work.

Boudoir style cushion
With its soft muted tones and classic elegance, here's the perfect cushion for a classy, chic home. We like the contrast between the textile motif and the colored square in the background which gives it a contemporary touch. This cushion is brought to you by Gracewood Stitches and is part of the Vintage textiles collection.
Home deco idea: This design can easily be turned into several cushions. Why not stitch a trio in three base colors, simply substituting the pink for mint green in one and light Scandinavian blue for the other?

New: Swatchables by Gracewood Stitches
What's a Swatchable? Like a musical theme that is repeated with variations with within a musical piece , the Swatchables are based on a main motif which is repeated in various forms and can be extended in various directions.
This one is called Rondo and is reminiscent of old terra cotta tiles.
The beauty of this cross stitch project is that you can extend the pattern at will and "color in" any parts of the design to make it totally unique. Do send us pictures of your stitched piece and if they are published you'll receive a new chart of your choice as a gift from us.

Finishing ideas: tray lining in cross stitch
Here's a beautiful idea for your cross stitch projects, lining the bottom of a tray with a splendid cross stitch mat. The picture shows the Alsace design from Gracewood Stitches. Any other of the designer's gorgeous patterns from the Vintage Textiles collection would be equally suitable as they can all be adapted to any size of object. Further more you can easily adapt your own colors to suit your home interior hues.
We suggest selecting a tray with vertical sides, which frames the mat neatly.
What can you use a tray for? For serving coffee for sure, but there are plenty of other decorative uses in home decor such as organizing objects on a coffee table, a beside table, a chest of draws...

Designer Kathy Bungard of Gracewood Stitches pursues her exploration of vintage fabric themes. We love her latest design inspired by antique bedlinen fabrics from Alsace. The beauty of this design is that it is continuous so it can be extended or cut, depending on your needlework project. It also works perfectly for needlepoint. We are sure it will inspire plenty of gorgeous ideas!

Designer of the Month: Gracewood Stitches
Kathy Bungard, the designer of Gracewood stitches brings a truly unique perpsective to needlework. We love the way she draws inspiration from an idea, say perfume, and develops a pattern based on this idea, such as the "Heart Note".

Perfect pair
New vintage-textile inspired "Beauvais" motif from Gracewood stitches is now available. A perfect match for the greatly popular "Carolina" design. Both projects are two-color based so you can easily switch colors to match your home decor. Ideal for making cushion covers.

In the spirit of vintage textiles
Carolina, Kathy Bungard's (Gracewood Stitches) latest design is inspired by the jacquard woven motifs found on antique coverlets and house linen used by the settlers in the Carolinas. We love the fact that the pattern is so versatile. It is continuous, meaning that, like any piece of fabric, you can adapt the size to your own use. Second, you can also pick your own colors and fibers.

Embrace Art Nouveau style, needle in hand
Art Nouveau (French for New Art) flourished in the early 1900's, with new forms of art no longer limited to fine arts (such as painting) but covering a whole range of handcrafted materials such as ceramics and textiles. Kathy Bungard from Gracewood Stitches designs has long been interested in Art Nouveau themes, bringing us a beautiful range of patterns for cross stitching. The latest in the series is Wimsey, with intertwining flower stems and decorative borders in typical Art Nouveau style.
